Dr. Alister Martin Joins Burnes Center for Social Change and Launches New Generative A.I. Partnership
[Boston, MA] – A Healthier Democracy proudly announces that Dr. Alister Martin, Board Certified Emergency Physician and CEO of A Healthier Democracy, will assume a new role as Senior Fellow at the Burnes Center for Social Change at Northeastern University, and Faculty at the Bouvé School of Nursing.
In a significant move to advance the field of civic health, A Healthier Democracy, a partner program of the Burnes Center, is poised to revolutionize its approach by incorporating artificial intelligence into key aspects of its operations driven by the Burnes Center’s AI4Impact program and Northeastern’s AI Solutions Hub. This integration will substantially enhance the scope of research, strategic partnerships, and grassroots organizing at A Healthier Democracy and across the burgeoning field of civic health.
“This collaboration arrives at a critical moment as our nation grapples with pivotal questions about the future of our democracy. The integration of generative artificial intelligence could really thrust our programming into lightspeed and we’re excited to partner with some of the best minds in industry and academia to do that in an intentional and effective way that helps our most vulnerable patients,” stated Dr. Alister Martin, CEO of A Healthier Democracy.
At the helm of A Healthier Democracy, Dr. Martin has been the driving force behind several impactful programs. With Link Health, he has been instrumental in channeling hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal benefits to low-income patients across various healthcare settings in the nation. In his role with Vot-ER, a nonpartisan initiative focused on healthcare-based voter registration, he has helped successfully mobilize over 50,000 healthcare providers and 700 hospitals to assist non-urgent patients in registering to vote, ensuring their voices are heard during elections. As the National Organizing Director for Get Waivered, Dr. Martin has played a pivotal role in transforming emergency rooms across the country into key access points for opioid addiction treatment, including significant contributions that led to the elimination of the X waiver requirement. Additionally, he co-founded GOTVax, a unique program designed to combine voter mobilization strategies with efforts to bring vaccines directly to vulnerable populations through targeted pop-up clinics.
Alister is a practicing Emergency Physician and an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and was a former Chief Resident at Massachusetts General Hospital.
He was a former Biden Administration member serving as an advisor in the White House Office of the Vice President under Kamala Harris as an appointed White House Fellow. He served as a former Health Policy Aide to Governor Peter Shumlin of Vermont and Congressman Raul Ruiz of California. He leverages his background in politics, policy, and the field of behavioral economics to use healthcare settings as a place to build programs that serve the needs of vulnerable patients.
